Sooooo can't be arsed.

Takes hours, crumbles into a zillion pieces,dp ends up having to somehow construct the remnants into some kind of shack, nobody eats it and it goes soft sulkily in a corner.

But we've done one the last few years and I'm feeling baaaaaaad!!!!!!!!!

Get a kit from the supermarket?
Or do something else instead - biscuits to hang on the tree/sweets/fudge.

Given your description (esp the not eating it bit) I don't blame you for not wanting to do one!

The biscuits to hang from the tree idea sounds good!

I only tried it once, burnt my little finger knuckle badly with melted sugar trying to stick together, then no-one ate it anyway, or really cared about it tbh, so never again!

Knuckle still hurts over 12 months later, ouch.

Don't blame you at all. Bought the kit from Ikea. Half of the front had already fallen apart.

They suggested melting sugar to stick the house together, not being much of a cook I didn't realise that molten sugar sets into the consistency of rock within minutes, therefore although we managed to stick the bottom bit together, I say we but mainly the part DS ( aged 4.5) played was to be shouted at to keep out of the way whilst I fiddled with red hot sugar. Managed to get the bottom bits done, but sugar rock hard before started on the roof. Gave up, half finished gingerbread house now sitting folornly beside microwave. We call it the ginger bread shanty.

Yes we had a shanty made from no less than 3 Ikea kits.

I bought a fab looking one from Aldi a couple of weeks ago. It cost £4.99. We have had the Ikea one before and it tasted really nice.
