Amazon, FWIW, says it was a hardware problem, not a DDoS attack. But then again, they might say that anyway, else customers might lose faith in them...

Can only say to get your orders in ASAP, as the 'Anonymous' group might ramp up the attacks to hit all the payment handlers in sequence, breaking many website payment systems in parallel.

(Google Checkout would probably be affected too, but some PayPal transactions might be held and processed later, while real-time sites would have some "card issuer fail" type status, and cancel the basket of goods).

Give my regards to Southampton, I studied there on East Park Terrace (ollege of Technology, top floor) and stayed in Shirley.
