Book recommendations- present for my Dad

S'ok, I know books are probably a dull gift but Dad doesn't mind; he gets a book from me most years.

He's 65 and quite brainy. Interested in ski-ing, sailing, politics, music, transport, history, walking....

Would rather buy him a non-fiction book or autobiography as I bought him a novel for his birthday :)

Anyone read anything scintillating recently that they'd recommend?

Thank in advance!

My 62 year old Dad is currently really enjoying Stephen Hawking's new Grand Design book.

my DP is into history and politics and he has just read the Chris Mullin Diaries. He laughed and nodded his head knowingly in places, and said it was one of the best books he's read for ages.

I bought my FIL Ricky Tomlinson's biography a couple of years ago, and he really enjoyed it (more than he thought he would).
