Transformers help!

Ds2 is 4y4m and loves Tranformers. He has some of the chunky basic ones from The Entertainer that don't transform and now he wants ones that do. Ds1 had the very small ones that transform and I thought that they were too basic and poor quality for ds2's needs.

My problem is that reviews for Transformers tend to be pretty bad in that they are too difficult to transform. Is this the case? He can use small Lego confidentally and is mad about construction toys in general and I don't want to waste my money and risk a tantrum as it's too hard.

Thanks!

yeah, a lot of them are really hard to transform.
also, bits come off quite easily. I have read that they are designed to come off rather than snap under pressure. However I now have a big plane that we can't make because there are about 20 small pieces that keep coming off and we can't find them all.

so choose wisely!!!!
bizarrely i remember my brorther having transformers when we were little and not having this problem at all

Thanks thisisyesterday. My brothers had them in the 80s and I remember them being fine so I was surprised to read the Amazon reviews saying that they were hard to trasform.

They are really hard. DS has Bumblebee and it takes me an evening sitting with the instructions to get it anything like what its meant to be.

Buy two and superglue one to always be a car and the other to always be a robot!!

meant to add, we have some of the small £5 ones which do a very basic transform. they seem better than the bigger more complex ones

Transformers are the bane of my life.

DS (4) has several of the large ones (optimus Prime, bumble bee, something that transforms into a tank and another than transforms into a helicopter).

I hide them Grin

Otherwise my whole life is spent transforming them from robot to machine, machine to robot, robot to machine, machine to robot, robot to machine, machine to robot...you get the picture. I can transform them all fairly easily (except OP Confused ) and DS is getting better at them but still finds them fairly frustrating.

I rate backugan Smile

crazygracieuk · 07/12/2010 22:23

Thanks.

Not sure what Bakugan is as Ds1 isn't interested in it but if it's easier I might start brainwashing convincing him it's what he really wants.

There are some Transformers called Bumper Battlers that are a car and when you crash it (or press the button on the end) a robot pops up from the middle.

Or Gravity Bots. Hold them vertical and they are a robot, hold them horizontal and they turn into a car. They're great but you might have to hunt them down on ebay.

Don't go there with the proper transformers. I spent half of Christmas day trying to do one last year. On Boxing Day someone had the bright idea of looking it up on YouTube and we finally managed it after watching an instruction video! My 5yo still can't do them though.

Avoid the US import one called 'Spastic' Shock

DS has some last Christmas and they are terrible. DH nor I can even get the damn things to transform. They are no-way as straightforward or robust as they were first time around. Then they were made of die-cast material that took a matter of seconds; these are made of perfectly snapable plastic that you could spend an entire evening with and then put in the loft.

Backugan are little balls that pop open when they are thrown onto their cotresponding cards (or indeed any magnet)

I think there is a cartoon to which the correspond but DS not really into that. Backugan are great though as they require no parental assistance Grin
