Does anyone else find it hard to big up Father Christmas

Does anyone else find it odd or a struggle to tell their DC that the presents come from Father Christmas?

I have never believed in him. It just wasn't something that we had in our family. My Mum tells me that my brother informed me at a young age that he wasn't real!

It just doesn't come easily to me at all and I feel a bit ridiculous talking about Father Christmas giving the presents. I keep forgetting that is what I am supposed to say.

MY DC are 4 and 2 by the way so I need to start getting my story straight.

I put a mince pie and carrot out last year and will do the same again and will say that the stocking is from him, but it just feels really odd doing it.

Not sure if this makes sense - but I wondered if I was the only one.

I read stuff on here about people getting cross about the John Lewis advert and it just doesn't occur to me that I should be trying to keep the magic alive for them.

DS is very interested in all that is going on this year and I want to make it special for him. He is only 4 and believes in Father Christmas. I am wondering what is the best tried and tested protocol for FC. i.e. do we tell him that different people got him different things?

dc 1 has always been scared of Father Christmas so we told him right from the start it was just a man dressed up , and that some children like to think he is real but try to get him not to talk about it at school as it will spoil it for them. He is five and I one of my friends told me he had been saying it at school - whoops! but i have refused to lie to him when he was so scared. My parents gave us a stocking from santa and big presents from them which is better i think if you are going to do it. we do a stocking but the idea that some strange man came into the house and put presents into his room would freak dc out so stocking is just described as some little presents which he really knows are from us! Make it special by taking them to church and hearing about the nativity.
