Do your children like keepsake/memory presents from when they were babies??

We've got a few little toys for Christmas for 4mo DD, but really fancy getting some keepsake type presents for her.

Have ordered this for when she moves into her nursery, largely because I think it's cute but would like to get a few bits to remember her first Christmas.

If you got keepsake things (special bear or such like) do your children like to look back on them and hear stories about when they were babies now they're a little older??

DD (4.5) is really likes things like this. She has a treasure box, which is a wooden box my mum painted for her when she was much smaller. She has small keepsakes in it - a baby bracelet, a silver fairy bought for her when she was a baby by her great grandad who is no longer with us, coins from holidays overseas, a teeny stuffed penguin. Just random stuff really, but she really looks after it and will regularly get it all out and talk to me about the things in her treasure box.

I would go for small items that will have a story rather than expensive things.

My DD's most prized possession (she is 7) is a tiffany baby rattle someone gave her when she was born! She has it all wrapped up in its box and she let DS2 shake it once before deciding it was too precious and she was keeping it for when she had a DD of her own.

DD1(5) loves looking at the cards I got when she was born, she also keeps her "1" birthday candle and the stork decoration that was on her christening cake!! She is however jealous of the cardboard baby box that dd2 has her baby cards in.

MumNW, that reminds me that I gave my dd1 (also 7) a Tiffany round silver baby rattle that now that I think about it I haven't seen in ages. I discovered about a year ago that dd is given to taking things to school to exchange for other friends' stuff - wonder if the rattle went this way?

They will look good for yonks me thinks! I still have all my boys cards but they did nt do these when he was born...maybe it's not too late (he is 4!)

my dc's are 9 & 12 and we have loads of keepsakes - prob too many, but one that I love and will always keep going was started by a dear friend who brought my eldest a waterford crystal tree bauble as a christening pressie. We now have lots of 'special' baubles - lots of places like York, Edinburgh etc have xmas shops open all year round so we try a bauble whenever we can on our travels and we talk about the places we bought them, or the person who bought them when we put up the tree. They will take them with them when they have their own trees!

My sister has bought each of my dc the Harrods xmas bear for their 1st xmas. They have a different bear every year with the year embroidered on the foot.I've actually just unpacked them this morning with the xmas decorations(I put them away each year) and the dc have been hugging them like long lost friends, and my oldest is 9! The same sister has just had her first baby so I ordered one for her. It was £16.99 which is alot cheaper than build a bear and a really special keepsake.

In my experience it's not the things that you buy for the nursery as such, (they are important and create a lovely atmosphere)whatever the budget, but the things that later on children interact with. Sometimes it's the oddest teddy or toy/story that they make an attachment with. It's part of their play/make believe world. Then you produce them at their 21st birthday party

Our children liked having a photo album on their bookcase as they got a bit older, 7ish, which we added to. Nice way for them to remember grandparent, family occasions etc.
