Help! Postable gift for sister in Australia

OK, gotta keep this short as am 1xbottle down, and heading for bed

But time is getting short; what on earth could I get and post to my little (late 20s) sis who's spending 6 months in Oz? I want something small and quirky, not edible/meltable/too expensive to risk getting lost in the post that I can send to make her smile at Xmas.

Don't know what she'd like; nothing cumbersome as she may do some backpacking...

Urgh, any ideas sooo gratefully recieved; am numb-brained at the best of times, but been struggling with this one for a while, and haven't even worked out posting dates yet

And yes, I know I haven't told you anything about her - but other than she has a new lovely fella, cats (in the UK), likes wine... don't know what else to add

Does she read a lot?

Book Depository has free worldwide postage, so you could send her a book through them - maybe a guidebook of a bit of Australia she will visit? Or a novel to read on the beach? Something like that?

A really cheesy english calender or a toy london bus.

Last posting day for NZ is monday I imagine Aus is much the same. My sis is also abroad with a new fella so I sent her a lovely negligee something they can both enjoy

Bill Bryson's book Down Under is very funny, and she could read that as she is going round. Or you could go the other way and get her one of his books about England for while she's far away. I would advise buying on an Aussie site though rather than posting from here. It's just easier.

No to books sorry. The last thing you need to be dragging round with you while backpacking is the weight of books.

I would say a couple of nice t-shirts (you get fed up living in the same ones while backpacking) Or send her some money so she can treat herself.

Or look uo where she is staying and find something she can do that you can pay fore remotely that she'll never get to do again (eg a helicopter flight over sydney harbour - not sure if that's within your budget but you get the idea)

Can you get her some gift vouchers for Aussie stores (order online?). Very easy to carry around then, and maybe she can treat herself to something nice when the backpacking gets too much!

If she has a compatible player, then DVDs of current British telly programmes (i-Player doesn't work overseas).

i-player does work over seas if you are a tv license payer. My parents watch it in NZ no problem. I think you have to put in some details, like your postcode or some such (wasn't listening properly when dad was going on about it explaining)
