Getting the house ready... Tips/Support thread anyone?

Anyone else a bit snowed under with all the preparation, getting the house in a reasonable state for Xmas? I am. Hard enough keeping up with the regular housework ATM due to DH being injured

I am excited too though, I'm free from studies for a while and as DH is off work with the injury I will actually have more time for sorting stuff out. And this year it'll be actually sorting stuff not just moving it all to a different room Hmm

We have until 22nd as that is when DH's kids stay over for the first of 3 celebrations (we are just us on 25th, then my relations come on 26th)

So far my main priorities are:

Have ALL toys upstairs to allow space for presents to be played with

Clear table/under it as that's where our tree is going this year due to inquisitive toddler

Move bookcase upstairs for more storage in DD's room

Create more room in kitchen somehow Confused

Generally clear up all the random crap especially in the living room and stairs

Tidy the bathroom as it's an embarrassment... Much like the rest of this house really!

Sort out DC's toys and get rid of useless/broken bits, organise what's left to make room for Xmas presents

Anyone else?

Yesterday was ok - didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but that's par for the course with my slothlike parents :o

However today has been awesome - dropped DD off at preschool and as soon as I returned DH and I tidied DD's room, and I've finally taken the bookcase up and arranged her stuff on it - can't wait for her to see it! As well as being tidier I think it's also going to make it easier to play together and she will get more use out of her toys :)

Good thing the binmen came today because we are getting rid of so much random crap!

DH is picking up DD now and DS is asleep so I should really get on with stuff...

Lol I would recommend getting sticky labels next year - I got cute cartoony ones in asda. I've only got a few presents left but I've already written the tags for them!

My DSD is staying this weekend but I still have to get on with stuff, I might try and rope her into sorting toys or something :o chocolate bribery maybe?

SantasKnickersOnMyHead · 10/12/2010 22:00

I had a very good plan when I started wrapping...I was colour coding, so I knew. But some, I forgot.

OK so the tree is finally up. The living room is spotless & I'm having a mulled wine tea drink & a mince pie & admiring our work Xmas Wink

Still lots to do.....

May I joing in please? My house is always a stateXmas Blush But today I have

-put all clothes away apart from the ironing(not too much)
-sorted dd's clothes as she has way too many and put the too small things in bags for a friend, I also sorted the too big pile as there were too many in that pile(gien to us by friends) and will pass these to another friend
-moved the ebay/bootfair boxes that have been sat in the dining room, now stacked neatly in our bedroom
-DH has helped dd & ds tidy their rooms, again
-I sorted clutter in our bedroom
-I have washed all clothes and tumble dryed them and put them away straight away Xmas Shock
-I hovered and cleaned the front room including under the sofas
-Christmas cards all put up not in a pile under the tee anymoreXmas Blush

dh has just done dinner so i'll come and post the otehr bits I've done as I did lots and am quite shocked!!

JetLi · 12/12/2010 17:04

Welcome Eddas - am Xmas Shock at your list Xmas Grin
You've got loads done!

SantasKnickersOnMyHead · 12/12/2010 17:23

I got as far as redecorating the tree Blush

Eddas · 12/12/2010 17:50

Hi i've gone a bit mad today, totally out of character I can aasure you Xmas Grin

My list should also include

-finally getting round to mending holes in a few clothes ans sewing up dd's Hello Kitty which had a poorly leg
-doing the normal washing up/unload dishwasher/load dishwasher/clean kitchen sides. why does this need doing every 5 minutes?Xmas Hmm
-hoovere our bedroom which happens approx once a yearXmas Blush It's laminate and 90% of it is covered by something! I even moved the bed Xmas Shock

There's still loads that needs doing. I need to hoover teh front room again as dd and ds have been playing and managed to create bits all over the floorXmas Angry

The dining room also needs work

I MUST clean the pushchair as I might need it tomorrow and it's mouldy(the result of a leaky car boot from a botched repair job after an accidentXmas Angry)

I also really want to wrap some christmas presents tonight as there are loads, I was going to do some last night but managed a grand total of 1 before giving up Xmas HmmXmas Grin

How's everyone going now?

We are doing fairly well compared to normal, nowhere near as much as we should do though...

Have sorted out a lot of stuff to get rid of, although most of it will have to stay until new year, it's hard to take things to donate to obscure places with no car!

All presents are wrapped and DH put the tree up today :)

Our main priority now is the kitchen. We've got the old fridge working so we have much more storage, and we've been using up old freezer food to make room for Xmas stuff. Now need to sort out crockery/pans and surfaces as there's hardly any space to prepare a normal meal let alone a massive roast Confused

Haribojoe · 15/12/2010 19:32

Can I join in?

Managed to finish wrapping last night which is now packed neatly away in one box instead of scattered round the house.

Was planning to get the house ship shape this week HOWEVER DS2 has got chickenpox, DS1 has ear infection and new kitchen arrived today which DH is putting together in the lounge and dinin room!

I won't even mention the wall we had to have replastered on Monday and the missing skirting boards!

The plan is replace skirting boards Saturday, visiting Santa Sunday morning at Bluewater and then coming home to get the house straight.

In fairness I don't think it will take too much/long with me and DH attacking it.

Better get it done as have got friends coming for childrens Christmas tea Monday afternoon!

BUT I am really looking forward to Christmas Xmas Smile
