Sweet or dry?

How old are you?

I'm a Harveys Bristol Cream girl, age 42 Grin

I don't think there are that many of us about.

Yup, I have a bottle of Harveys in the kitchen and a bottle of port. It's cheaper then wine and lasts longer. Grin I'm 33.

ENormaSnob · 27/11/2010 20:20

Yes Blush

I like both and I also like advocaat Blush

I'm 29 next week!

Alouiseg · 27/11/2010 20:20

Oh yes! Not so much Bristol Cream, I'm more of a Manzanilla girl.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/11/2010 20:21

Dry. A nice really cold Tio Pepe makes my christmas tree go up with a flourish Grin. I am 37years and 9months.

Portofino · 27/11/2010 20:32

Oh yes - an ice cold manzanilla is lovely!

posey · 27/11/2010 20:33

Great to see some younger ones keeping the sherry tradition alive and wellGrin
I'm sure it was my grandma who introduced me to the stuff.

Now advocaat...haven't had any in ages, might add it to Christmas shopping list

Boak.

I tried it a couple of times in the past and found it vile.

Portofino · 27/11/2010 20:34

I'm 42 by the way. When I got married the first time, my ex MIL insisted on buying a case of dry/ case of sweet for the reception. No-one drank it. Well apart from me - I used to come from work and have a sherry - it lasted months, then I had developed a taste for it.

JetLi · 27/11/2010 20:34

Same as Portofino - ice cold, v.dry.

BTW rumour has it there is some 10 year old Bristol Cream knocking around?

Pedro Ximanez comes highly recommended but haven't tried it myself.

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 27/11/2010 20:35

What's advocaat?

saltyseadog · 27/11/2010 20:35

Yes - I love HBC.

I'm also partial to a lot of little port.

PamelaFlitton · 27/11/2010 20:36

Yes I fucking love it. And port as well. Legacy of times at Oxford. Sweet and warm, thanks. Tastes comfortingly medicinal. I am young.

onimolap · 27/11/2010 20:37

Love it - it's my mother's tipple so very comforting.

thisisyesterday · 27/11/2010 20:38

i LOVE sherry!

croft original all the way

am 30 (but only just). I blame my Nana for giving me a taste for it in my youth lol

thisisyesterday · 27/11/2010 20:38

in fact i;m tempted to go and get one right now

onimolap · 27/11/2010 20:41

I love port too (something I picked up in the Mess along with DH?).

Also Madeira - sercial (for sherry) and malmsey (for port).

posey · 27/11/2010 20:42

advocaat is a bright yellow gloopy drink made of egg yolks, brandy, sugar and vanilla (I think). It can be drunk neat or with lemonade to make a snowball.

Now Port I haven't been able to face for many many years after the mother of all hangovers...first time I'd met my best friend's boyfriend(now husband)and he served port after his great dinner...I remember very little of the next few days{grin]

What is the best port then? Or sherry even? Am reading this and feeling fortified wine-curious...

Why is it always in massive bottles And it goes off too dosent it? What if I get the wrong one?

posey · 27/11/2010 20:44

thisisyesterday - see, another grandmother leading us astray!
But I hate Croft Original Smile

MayDayChild · 27/11/2010 20:44

missmoopy · 27/11/2010 20:44

I LOVE sherry....its one of my favourite things about Xmas!

Harveys Bristol Cream.

I'm 37.

Alouiseg · 27/11/2010 20:45

Croft Particular is rather good though!

glitterkitty · 27/11/2010 20:45

P.S. I am 37 and 11 months...

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster · 27/11/2010 20:48

Eww. Why would anyone want to drink egg yolk?? (no offence)

nameymcnamechange · 27/11/2010 20:49

Completely love sherry. Infact, I can't really have it in the house Blush.

I like amontillado (?) best, then Croft Original. But will drink Harveys Bristol Cream without too much encouragement.

My mil is pretty much teetotal, but has recently discovered a liking for sherry. We are going there for Christmas so will deffo be packing an extra bottle.

Harvey's Bristol Cream was on special offer with Ocado last week, btw - 6 pounds Grin.

DH has been working his socks off for the last few weeks and we have barely seen him. But he will be here until about 3.30pm tomorrow, so I am cooking Sunday lunch and will certainly be cracking open the sherry at about midday tomorrow.
