Decorating the kitchen

This yr i am hoping to decorate the kitchen in a more festive look,usually i hang some glass baubles from ribbon in front of the window & maybe stand a wooden Father Christmas next to the stove.

Seeing as i spend too long in the kitchen i want to make it a more joyful place to be in.

How do you decorate your kitchen?

I don't usually but have been thinking the same thing. I found some nice snowflake decorations at the weekend which I intend to put on the windows but other than that I have nothing else!!

I might make some bunting to hang from the cooker hood,does that sound rubbish?

i put a couple of ceiling decs up, a string of white lights round the window and tinsel on top of the cupboards. i also have a festive cake stand on the table, and a festive bowl of nuts.

I put all the christmas cards in the kitchen as it doesnt matter if they get grubby as they will be recycled in a few weeks.

Hmm bunting near cooker hood will best get splattered in food/grease and at worst catch fire, no? Christmas bunting does sound lovely though, can you put a few nails in the wall and attach from those instead?

We have a 2m long shelf in kitchen above sink area that I have bought these lights for and am going to ask my lovely friend for some orange Chinese Lanterns from her garden to complement. I've also got some sprayed silver allium heads I'll scatter artfully amongst it all.

On our island each year I put a large stainless steel container filled with garden greenery and hang wee little red matt baubles off it.

We also have a few of these mahoosive snowflakes dangling from the ceiling.

Do you have any scented candles, perhaps cinnamon, vanilla or pine? These can be so lovely in the kitchen (or any part of the house). In our kitchen we have a bit of space above the cabinets that I like to drape with garland, red ribbon and little white lights... it looks beautiful and it is not ?too? much. And of course holiday music!! DH has recently bought a music docking station for the kitchen counter and it's been lovely to listen to all my Christmas music while I bake. Have been purchasing a few Fairshare holiday playlists - absolutely fabulous way to get you into the spirit.

I'm sure however you decorate the Kitchen this Christmas will be lovely FrostyBaubles :)

Thankyou everyone for posting,there are some gorgeous ideas here that i will promptly pinch.

I think we will have to go for a walk round the forest near to us & find some lovely holly twigs that i will drape from the top of the cabinets.

I love the idea of playing Christmassy music,i will get dh on that job asap.

We have fairy lights draped around in every room (honestly!). Then in the evenings we have all the other lights off, and it looks lovely (or like a tacky grotto, but either way I love it)

Do you all think shaded christmas lights look more festive than shadeless ones?

Our kitchen is open plan to the sunroom so as we tend to spend alot of time there I spend alot of time decorating it. My 'theme' is sort of nordic/ red gingham stuff. I have a fake green garland that I put along top of my wooden pelmet and then attach fresh greenery, cinamon sticks, orange slices on. I put a real tree in the kitchen with edible decorations like popcorn threaded garlands, more fruit slices and fake gingerbread shapes( tried real ones but the break/get eaten).
