Alternative christmas dinner.

Our plans have changed a little and it will just be me and the hubby and the kids for christmas dinner but non of us fancy traditional christmas dinners.
Mumsnetters inspire me what is your alternative.Sorry if I have posted this in wrong place its only my second post.

A small roast
A running buffet all day
A longstanding family favourite meal

Whatever you all love to eat. Or whatever you indiviudally love to eat.
I think there is a great expectation put on people for christmas dinner, my choice would be a day long buffet (replenished by a naked Adrian Chiles) with all the lovely things I adored but wouldn't eat on a daily basis.
I could be prepared to forgo Adrian though for a load of cheese and vol au vents.

Make the pudding memorable with sparklers, and make the rest tasty but easy to cook, crackers on the table and the children wont notice its not the full bacon beef and turkey works. :o You cant go wrong!

Well this isn't really an alternative, but we are having our Christmas dinner (turkey, etc) on Christmas Eve, a-la National Lampoon!

We never do much on Christmas Eve, so I'm going to get all the cooking and hassle out of the way then. I'm going to get stockied uup in the morning on lots of salads, etc, and will do a big turkey and maybe something else too while the oven's on, like a bit of beef or something). Then we can sit down Christmas Eve and have our meal, and I will feel very smug knowing that on Christmas Day I can sit on my arse and be very lazy, and come lunch time we have a lovely cold buffet waiting in the fridge!

Put me right off me turkey.

We had rib of beef one year, which compared to the cost of turkey was a bargain. It depends what it is you don;t like about it, if you don't like the whole roast and accompaniments business, then better steering away and doing something completely different.

If my lot didn't like it and we didn't have expectant rellies, I think I'd do more of a Boxing Day feast, but with lots of seafood, smoked fish etc. Sausage rolls, mince pies etc.
