Who's switching on your local Christmas lights?

I went to see Diva Fever from X Factor (as if I need to tell you) switch on our local lights last night.

They were late, were a bit rubbish and only did 2 songs.

DD (7) was completely underwhelmed and asked during their performance if she could go home.

So who's switching on your town's lights, are you going, or have you gone to see them, and were they worth standing about in the cold for?

The Provost (ceremonial figure similar to Mayor) along with a couple of kids from the local Clic Sargent holiday house. I'd rather it was this way than having some non-entity of a "sleb" do it for a fee.

That said, I also live close to another town where there is a bit of dissension over the fact that the former X-factor contestant who was supposed to do it is being replaced by someone even less impressive because the first one is now going to be doing some higher profile promotional crap.

Curiousmama · 22/11/2010 10:33

Diva fever did ours too, think it was Saturday night? I didn't go though.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 22/11/2010 10:45

Birmingham had Roy Wood this year. Probably an improvement on the JLS inspired crowd crush last year.

ShadeofViolet · 22/11/2010 12:03

Paul Ince Hmm

greaseistheword · 22/11/2010 12:16

Jacquiline wilson here on thursday.my dd1 (9) loves her.

latristessedurera · 22/11/2010 14:55

Leeds had McFly, Shayne Ward and Katy from I Can Cook this year.

Last year we were supposed to have Alexandra Burke but she stood us up at the last minute to do Manchester's instead so we ended up with Pixie Lott.

I haven't been to see any lights turned on since I was pictured in the local paper dancing to Bad Boys Inc Blush. Embarrassing as that is, the photo caption said 'The crowd goes wild for magician Paul Daniels'. My 15 year old self was mortified that people would think I was a closet Paul Daniels fan and the trauma of it still haunts me to this day.

greaseistheword -my DD would force me at gunpoint to drive her to wherever that is if she knew !

Here, its probably some lame z-list 'sleb' who is in the local panto.

greaseistheword · 22/11/2010 16:28

NorbertDentressangle its in Teddington.

NorbertDentressangle · 22/11/2010 18:29

Thank you greaseistheword (for the PM too).

Unfortunately its a long way from us so there's no chance of us going.

I just hope they don't mention it on the JW website or it'll be "Mummy...."

YourCallIsImportant · 22/11/2010 22:03

curiousmama I think they were busy boys on Saturday. They did Cumbernauld and Alexandria and another one I think.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 24/11/2010 14:48

I don't know - and this year I don't care as I'll be in Edinburgh (without the children)

Actually let me go and see oh I'm not missing much

The highlights for the evening are apparently

Shirin Sech and Steve Brookstein singing

Then Emmerdale's Richard Grieve is switching the lights on

mrstimlovejoy · 24/11/2010 16:24

john stape from coronation street switched them on last friday [he's from this area]
but really they could have asked richard armitage [he's from this area too]

edam · 24/11/2010 16:28

Larry Lamb from 'stenders/Gavin & Stacey. Not bad, really. But I never pay any attention to the B-list celeb as we are too busy going round the kids' rides and the stalls.

CuppaTeaJanice · 24/11/2010 16:37

I'm not sure about the lights, but we've got Little Jimmy Osmond starring in the pantomime!!

I'm so excited!!!!!!! Grin

kimbles1984 · 24/11/2010 17:33

muggglewump · 24/11/2010 21:10

Paije is in the next town (Dumbarton) this weekend. Poor sodGrin

YourCallIsImportant · 24/11/2010 21:15

I know, it's in the local paper today. He's got to be better than Diva Fever. I think the cold nearly killed them on Saturday, Southern softies I think you call them. Grin

I might take DD to see Paige. She liked him on XF.

YourCallIsImportant · 24/11/2010 21:17

And I know what you mean about Dumbarton. I'll have more lights on my house than they'll have in Dumbarton High St. It'll be lovely though, all those Pound shops, bookies and cheque cash places basking in the glow of a few bulbs...

OP posts:
muggglewump · 24/11/2010 21:17

We liked him too, and Diva Fever but don't know if I can be arsed to traipse to Dumbarton on Sunday.
I don't think we have any slebs hereSad

usualsuspect · 24/11/2010 21:20

The Lord Mayor..but he is a bit of a sleb after his trousers falling down fiasco
