I want to get some toy trains for my DS (6) to go on his train table which someone very kindly given me. I don't want Thomas or Chugginton and I don't want to spend a fortune. Looked on amazon and ebay but can't really see what i'm looking for but then i don't really know what i'm looking for til i see it IFYWIM!!!!

Here? DS2 has quite a few of these magnetic ones which he mixes in with his thomas ones.

Lidl has wooden train sets next week if that's any use.

John Lewis do a good range of their own brand mixed in with the Thomas and Brio ones. You can also find own brand trains at Tesco and Asda.

thank you - I remember Tesco and Adsa having their own trains years ago when DD was smaller but I couldn't see any online. Might have to brave the crowds and go and have a look instore. I love the wooden one as well Jenny but I think DS would prefer the first one you linked to.

Ikea do these too now don't they. Most of the supermarkets do these too, but usually in a track pack.

The Tesco and Asda ones tend not to be online, and you will prob only find them in the bigger stores. Tesco do some decent engines - and some battery powered ones as well.
