Am thinking about it after getting all inspired and having a flick through 'Delia's Christmas' last night. She starts by saying her Christmas recipe book is something I should have 'reached for in October' so I'm already behind schedule ha ha.

So should I try making the cake or is it not worth the agro?

Moo - if you have a dishwasher, just put the jars and lids in on a hot cycle just before you start making the jam/marmalade/chutney/mincemeat, so by the time you are ready to pot it the cycle has finished and the jars are hot and sterilised.

Works for me every time. I don't bother with wax discs either, if you pot whatever it is whilst its hot in a hot jar and then seal with a screw top lid, it will be fine.

If you're really bothered by it, start by just making a few jars of something. It won't need to keep long then......
