When do you put your tree up?

Since having DD (now 7) we have put our tree and decs up usually around the first weekend in Dec (it used to be much later). But DS (aged 2) has a birthday 15th Dec. Do we wait until afer his birthday so he can have a party etc and until then, it is his birthday as the big event, and then once his birthday is over, start the whole Christmas thing? I don't want him to miss out on all the usual excitement of birthdays just because of when it is, but know that round here, we will be in the minority of houses undecorated if we wait till after?

We don't have much space and I hate the clutter so we do it as late as possible (depending on when I am working and when we can fit it in etc). So maybe around the 22nd/23rd. To be fair it is then up for about 2 weeks (til 12th night) and for the dcs that is a long time and certainly long enough for me.

The whole of December is just too long imo.

In your position the earliest I would put it up would be the 18th. At least let him have his cards up for a few days!

Doesn't it just show already how people differ in timescales?

People over the road put their tree up last Wednesday. Also outside of their house is covered with lights, inflatable santa, snowman, the works. Shock

We do ours first weekend in December.

My dd's birthday is the 16th and we always put up the tree then.Choose it the day before, but decorate it on her birthday.Seems about the right time and it makes her day extra special too.

Normally around the 12th, but this year have got a mindee who is a toucher - a chronic toucher in fact, so it won't be going up until the last day with him and be backd own before the 1st Jam probably

Ours usually goes up on the first day of the school holidays, but they aren't breaking up until the 22nd this year so it might go up on the Saturday before, which will be the 18th.

One year we put it up earlier but the decorations all looked scraggy by Christmas. Also a real tree doesn't stay looking good for that long.

We do it late otherwise the needles would have fallen off by christmas.

Let your DS have a birthday celebration before launching into Christmas, otherwise it will be a bit swallowed up into it

We have an artificial tree here (DH's preference but it was very expensive and really looks good) so no needle drop problem.

Our's goes up the first weekend in December because A) We can't wait and B) I've invested quite a lot of money in decorations over the year so I want to show them off a bit Grin

Dh and boys put it up the weekend before Christmas so this year it will be on the 18th December.

Millimat my DS2 was born on 18th Dec so we will put up the tree on the 19th/20th at the earliest.

Plus, it's a proven fact that the later you put up your tree, the posher you are.

We're away the 1st 2 weekends of Dec.

We always get a real, non drop tree and the kids would kill us if we didn't so we now have a bit of a conundrum,do we do it the last weekend in Nov exactly a month before or the weekend they break up ie the week before. Worried there won't be any left, also paying best part of £30 for a week of pine needle sniffing doesn't seem long enough iykwim. I'm over the whole tree thing by boxing day.

So straw poll which weekend?

Around 10 days before Christmas. If I had a Dec birthday in the family I'd try to keep the two seperate.

Our DS's birthday is the 4th December so ours go up the weekend after that, but they've always gone up that weekend as we have a real tree and it wouldn't last otherwise. I would like to keep his birthday and Christmas completely seperate so it still feels special to him. They don't come down until the 3rd of January though.
