Camera for a 5yo: Vtech Kidizoom or a normal camera?

Have heard good and bad things about the Vtech Kidizoom. I think it's better for a 5 yo because of the games and because it's more robust but dh wants to get a normal camera. Any opinions?

Thanks!

Normal camera I would say. I think the appeal of a 'toy' camera would run out pretty quickly. Also depends on why you're buying it. My 8yo niece just got a camera for her birthday but she is photo mad and has been since she was tiny.

fyi there is a kids digital camera in next for £20... it doesn't look as babyish as the vtech one but probably doesn't take any better pics.

Thanks ja, I'll have a look.

We got the kidizoom when DD was 3, she is now 5 and I'd definitely go for the normal camera now.

The quality is porr though obviously they are more robust, but I think a 5 year y.o. should be at the age where they look after things.

Thanks everyone - I think we'll go for a normal one. They can be a lot cheaper as well!
