Playmobil Advent Calendar - which one this year?

MollieO · 15/10/2010 09:33

Having had so much fun with the Playmobil police advent calendar last year I'm wondering which one to go for this year.

Any recommendations? Particularly keen to hear from MN resident Playmobil expert SoMuchToBits. Grin

I'm thinking that the Dinosaur Expedition one could be fun.

I cna't believe I am 37 and never heard of these! Do they supply enough pieces throughout the calendar to actually make up a worthwhile game?

fatzak · 17/10/2010 22:27

Freddo - my German is too rusty to risk shopping so by the powers of google...

Thanks, great website!

OOOhhh, Mollie, I'm a bit late to this thread Grin

We had the Police Playmobil advent calendar last year and ds loved it! But he has looked at what is available this year, and nothing really grabs his attention. They are either too girly or too pirate-based etc. He is really much more into emergency services, or construction stuff etc. So I think we may have to resort to Lego City again this year.

But if anyone didn't buy the Playmobil police one last year, we can definitely recommend it Grin

SoMuchToBats · 17/10/2010 22:50

Btw - am very impressed to think you consider me a resident Playmobil expert, Mollie!

Norman the Foreman sends his regards to anyone on this thread.... (and a cup of hot beverage....)

MollieO · 17/10/2010 23:10

I remember the thread from last year! Surely Norman must have a recommendation? Grin

I think we will go for the dinosaur one.

I've not thought of letting ds choose. Blush

How about the Santa feeds his animals one? i like the idea of it being Christmas pieces- has anyone got it?

Tikkabillajive · 18/10/2010 11:10

Thanks fatzak - I meant to say that I used google translate when I ordered from them - my GCSE German is FAR too rusty! It's a brilliant website though isn't it - I got ds a Wader garage from them last Christmas, which I couldn't find anywhere here, and the service was brilliant.

Millimat we've had the forest one before - I mentioned it below. It is very sweet and you get lots of little animals, although rather too many birds and random root vegetables (I suppose to feed the animals with!)

Hello SoMuchToBits, I definitely think of you as resident Playmobil expert! A Norman the Foreman themed advent calendar would be great wouldn't it - and only right as he is now their respected leader. There could be a kettle on the 1st Dec, a mug on the 2nd, a reflective tabard on the 3rd...

SoMuchToBats · 18/10/2010 21:10

Lol, Tikkabilla, Norman likes the sound of your advent calendar idea! Maybe a hi-viz jacket, a portaloo, a box of teabags (don't think Playmobil do these yet!) could all feature in it.....

Sadly, ds already has the police calendar (which he loved) and isn't particularly gripped by this year's other offerings, so we may have to revert to Lego City this year Sad. We have had Lego City before, and it's fine, but the Playmobil police one last year was definitley beter. So I'd say if your dcs like any of the Playmobil ones, go for them (and Lego are more expensive!)

Ds would love a Playmobil fire themed calendar though, or even a leisure themed one, or airport, or sea adventure....

He isn't really into dinosaurs, although that one looks great for anyone who is!

posey · 18/10/2010 21:19

We have the Town Square one, lots of carol singers etc and then Father Christmas comes out in box 24 I think.
We've had it for about 10 years and still love it. When ds was about 2 we added the forest one but it isn't as good imo!

OatcakeCravings · 19/10/2010 10:31

Never heard of a playmobil advent calander before now - so thanks!

Quick question - my son will be 2.5 this Xmas - too young for one?

Tikkabillajive · 19/10/2010 11:10

SoMuch - yes def a portaloo - and then Norman himself could appear on the 24th (well a clone of Norman obviously).

Oatcake - my ds is 2.5 and he has been playing with Playmobil for ages as his big sister has it. He loves it and really enjoyed the advent calendar last year when he was almost 2 - but be warned there are some really, really tiny bits!

SoMuchToBats · 19/10/2010 12:15

Norman is a bit worried about being cloned! Shock He says he would like some nice cakes in the advent calendar, to go with the cuppas. And plates, and a mobile phone, and a laptop (for ordering more supplies of teabags!) Grin

Tikkabillajive · 19/10/2010 18:27

Grin I'm imagining the cardboard diorama - piles of rubble, a portacabin festooned in tinsel etc - very festive!

MrsJohnDeere · 19/10/2010 18:31

Ds2 is having the pirate one from last year, bought in a sale last Christmas
Ds1 will be having the dragon knights one I think

MrsJohnDeere · 19/10/2010 18:33

Oatcake 2.5 is fine imho

topaz11 · 13/11/2010 10:44

I can't understand why Playmobil have moved away from a Christmas theme for their Advent Calendars in recent years. In the last few years we have had pirates, fairies, police, dragons, ponies, knights, dinosaurs, unicorns and princesses! Nothing at all to do with Christmas!

This year Playmobil have gone back to a more traditional theme with Christmas Post Office (4161).

I prefer collecting vintage ones on ebay and have now completed my collection which I intend to pass on to my 4 children and future grandchildren.

oldraver · 13/11/2010 12:26

A couple of years ago we had the Christmas in the park one which had a noisy lovely music box in it. It was sometimes a pain as DS kept on knocking the pieces over. I also couldn't understand why Santa/ FC came on the 23rd and the musicbox Christmas Eve...

Last year we had the Christmas Forest one but also added soem of the pieces from last year. I put the cardboard display stand on a bookcase shelf that DS could reach and he also decorated it a bit with cotton wool snow. It was a bit better contained there

SoMuchToBits · 13/11/2010 12:29

Ds has decided to go for the Christmas in the Forest one this year, rather than Lego City! Yayyy!!! Grin

MollieO · 30/11/2010 21:05

Backdrop has been assembled, box as been hidden by ds. I'm hoping it will make an appearance at breakfast tomorrow. I was out voted and we have Christmas in the Forest - I doubt that it will be as exciting as the police one but we shall see.
