I hate it personally! We just visited family last year but this year as DS is 4, we'd like to do fun things with/for him, (as going to see my 80 year old aunt for a full day is too much for DH, never mind DS!)

We're in sheffield, but willing to travel!

What do you do?

Eat, drink, watch crap on Tv and try to hide away for my birthday.

Nearly everyone forgets it so I try to ignore the day by refusing to get out of bed.

I have failed for the last 2 years as my best friends come round and drag me out to go round the sales.

I hate my birthday.

We do the panto thing and have lots of family meals / entertaining.

We have lots of friends that come to us / we go to them... and for the children we have little tree presents, (small gifts under the tree, for less than £5), or if we're meeting friends, then we swap Christmas gifts. Pretty much, the children meet with family or friends every day and get a present every day that week. We also play card games and the like most evenings.

Christmas ends on New Year's eve, when we see friends and swap the last lot of presents.

Tree comes down on New Years day, and that's Christmas done.

I love the lull between Christmas and New Year. We don't do much and I am going to nick the idea of going to a panto - we never seem to manage to fit it in before Christmas with all the visits and shopping so never go. A matinee after Christmas would be perfect.

I got married on the 27th for this exact reason, everyone I spoke to said they hated that in between stage and I desperatly wanted a xmas wedding! It was brilliant for that lull!

Now we celebrate our anniversary by doing something as a family, we go on a daytrip somewhere like thomas land where they make it snow and because its after xmas, these places are dead!

im hoping to be off xmas eve, xmas day and boxing day therefore will have to worka few days the week after, dh is off for 2 whole weeks at xmas (he is in the construction firm and always off for 2 weeks at xmas)
however when im not working i will be scoffing my face with choccies, watching xmas films and palying with kids new toys Grin

Our office shuts down at 2pm on Christmas Eve until the first working day after New Year which is bliss. I will be at work Christmas Eve morning but as we have done virtually all our gift buying already and all that will need to be done is turkey collection from the farm, DH will cope!

im hoping dh gets xmas eve off, this hasnt yet been mentioned, but i just love xmas eve at home dvds and hot choccy time Grin it wont be the same if dh is at work Sad
