Just heard a rendition of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" (it was on Ugly Betty - I'm not so bonkers as to be watching Christmas movies just yet! ). Everytime I hear that song it makes me so sentimental and a little tearful.

What Christmas tune gets to you?

Fairytale of New York - reminds me of my childfree days, sitting in pubs with lots of friends around Christmas.

East 17 Stay Another Day. It was No1 in 1994 at Christmas when my eldest son Jack died aged two hours Sad I nromally dread hearing it for the first time each Christmas as i never know how i will react. Thankfully last Christmas i was at home when i heard it in first and not in a shop!

Christmas is so bitter/sweet, especially the music.

All of them, but especially

Children singing Away in a Manger reduces me to tears every time, along with many other mums I suspect.

Oh, Lottie how very sorry I am for you. That must be so hard. The one that got to me the day my dad died (although not at Christmas) was REM Everybody Hurts.

Oh Lottie Sad
My lovely Mil died around the time 'Bedshaped' by Keane was everywhere. It's a 'sad' song and always reminds me of her passing.

Everybody Hurts always leaves me choking back tears, girlywhirly.

I think those are the kind of reasons that 'Mad World' was number one at Xmas that year.

It's bittersweet for a lot of people, I think.

oh Lottie, I am so sorry. I can't imagine your pain at hearing that song each year :(

I find I am generally rather choked by christmas songs - hymns included. I think it is such a bittersweet time for many reasons - you pin so much hope on this wonderful time and inevitably you do think about those who should be with us.
