I am thinking of getting the Ikea one, does anyone have any other recommendations? Or does anyone have the Ikea one, does your child like it?

My dd will be nearly two at Christmas but I think it is a gift that will last her and I thought she might be more likely to play with it as she gets older if it is more realistic but the ikea one does look a bit dull...

the ikea one is FAB

Tikkabillajive · 05/10/2010 12:08

Yes the Ikea one is totally brilliant.

jeee · 05/10/2010 12:09

If you don't mind going for the second hand option, you can often find toy kitchens for under a fiver at car boots.

Tikkabillajive · 05/10/2010 12:10

I don't think it's at all dull - they just love having their own size cupboards to open, a little sink - and the stove tops light up. You need plenty of accessories - pots & pans, teaset, play food etc to bash around with. It's very sturdy and hardwearing (my nearly 3-year-old and 5 year old play with it most days and it's taken a good bashing. And it looks good in our tiny kitchen.

Thanks for the feedback, by dull I mean because it isn't brightly coloured. I don't mind a second hand one at all but the only one I spotted at a car boot had parts missing and someone practically snatched it out of my hand while I was looking at it!

I think I will get the Ikea one, it looks reasonable value and hopefully she will use it for years.

I'm getting the ELC red retro kitchen for my children this Christmas.

The Ikea one is good too, I just wasn't sure it would be big enough for more than one child.

fromheretomaternity · 05/10/2010 16:06

I am going to get the John Lewis red toy kitchen, its a bit like the ELC one but a little smaller. Ikea one looks good too though.

llareggub · 05/10/2010 16:08

I've got two pre-schoolers who quite happily use the IKEA kitchen almost to the exclusion of any other toy. It has been well worth the money.

WitchyWooWoo · 05/10/2010 16:18

saw the elc one today and it looks quite good :)

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 05/10/2010 22:10

My DS loves playing with the ikea one, I think it's fab.

I have bought him the elc red retro one though because it fits with my living room colour scheme better has a bit more storage space for all the pots/pans/kettle/toaster etc that he'll end up getting to go with it. I used a 20% off voucher to save £30 which made the price slightly less eye watering.

I wanted to get DD the Ikea one last year and went in October to get it. They were sold out until February!

We got a Le Toy Van one and it's good, but I think the Ikea one is better. The lights on the hob are really cool as is the sink.

Hulababy · 05/10/2010 22:14

I saw the IKEA one the other evening. Had 8y DD with me and she said it was fab and wished she was bit smaller so she could have one, lol.

TheGruffaloMami · 05/10/2010 22:24

Oooh glad to read this. I went to IKEA kast week and bought the kitchen for my son who will be 20 months at Christmas. My husband thinks I am a bit nuts for getting christmas presents this early but I was worried it would sell out :vindcated: Please tell me it's easy to assemble!

I am getting my 3 yr old ds the ikea one for xmas was going to get it in November but bit worried itwill sell out now :(

PfftTheMagicDragon · 06/10/2010 07:24

The IKEA one looks marvellous. I would recommend not getting a plastic one as the little bits break quickly. We have a wooden one and they do last

eandh · 06/10/2010 07:39

I am getting DD2 the IKEA one for Xmas (may go next week to get it now!)

However if you want a colourful one there is this

The3Bears · 06/10/2010 09:36

Think I am going next week aswell dont want miss it as this is the one we really like :)

reddaisy · 10/10/2010 18:37

Thanks for all your replies.

I got DP to get the Ikea one as he was working near our nearest Ikea (two hours away) for the day. He said it looks great assembled in the shop. It is now in the garage, woo hoo! DD's main present is sorted. We also got her the saucepans, some crockery and some utensils to go with it.

But DP said the proper pans etc in Ikea were actually cheaper so that might be worth looking at for people still planning to get theirs?

I'm getting excited about Christmas now!!!

The3Bears · 18/10/2010 13:21
