Secret Santa

this is not the christmas appeal. BuzzingNoise has kindly suggested a traditional secret santa. I think its a wonderful idea, and would like to invite all you wonderful ladies to join. I think the concept is, everyone who wants to take part signs up, and then names are drawn out of a hat for who sends to who. everyone then sends one gift, and receives one gift. I think up to a value of £10 would be good. We could even make it into a little game, each gift received could be posted on here, and we could try to guess who sent it. i will make up a standard form for joining in i think, will post that in the next couple of weeks. i think the best way if for people to send email addresses, then when they get their recipient, they can email that person for address details, that way we can use our chat nicknames and each mn'er only gets one set of address details

words fail me CherryMonster

BuzzingNoise · 03/10/2010 17:03

BALD, what's wrong with it?

FallingWithStyle · 03/10/2010 17:27

I imagine bald is left speechless by cm latching onto yet another way of being at the helm of a mn xmas gift-giving thing.

Cm - I've said before, I dont think your motives are anything other than wanting to do something nice but by god, you aren't half fuelling any suspicion that already exists.

chocolatespiders · 03/10/2010 17:29

me please

BuzzingNoise · 03/10/2010 17:32

I suggested it to CM as she was keen to organise something. I'm not sure what there is to be suspicious about, but I didn't pay an awful lot of attention to what went on before.
I think a normal secret santa is a great idea, and I'd like to take part.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/10/2010 17:34

Buzzing Noise, there are valid reasons why MNHQ has called Secret Santa in-house and is not keen on individuals organising their own for various reasons

AmpleBosom · 03/10/2010 17:35

I don't get it, won't this just cause alot of confusion?

GypsyMoth · 03/10/2010 17:36

have thet called secret santa in house?? i thought that was the xmas appeal.....different things

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/10/2010 17:38

yes indeed, AB

Leave it to MNHQ to organise - on a different thread they said they were waiting for September to click over to October then get started on the appeal

BuzzingNoise · 03/10/2010 17:40

yes, the appeal is run by MNHQ.
What's the harm in a secret santa?

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 03/10/2010 17:42

It's going to get far too confusing.

Is there a charity in real life you could help out Cherry? A hospice who need help asking for christmas present donations from local businesses for example?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/10/2010 17:42

BuzzingNoise there may well be issues around MN and data protection that we are not aware of

This is a business and the owners have responsibilities that we users may not be aware of

And again, to reiterate, the whole thing grew so so huge that it is irrespnsible to lay all on the shoulders of one volunteer

chocolatespiders · 03/10/2010 17:55

we used to do swaps on a monthly basis that worked very well.

I thought this was seperate from the appeal, but dont really wish to be involved if it will casue problems

BuzzingNoise · 03/10/2010 18:38

I took part in a couple of swaps last year and they were really good. I don't see how this one would be any different.

cherrymonster · 03/10/2010 19:21

thats the point ladies. doing it this way, no one gets any address or name details. chat nicknames are put into a hat and drawn out randomly, then the sender will pm their recipient for details. no one takes part who hasnt agreed to this. and it remains anon because only nicknames are used, not real names. its a good suggestion by BuzzingNoise, and those of you who dont like it dont have to look. hide the bloody thread if you dont wanna know, i dont need you all having a go at me and slagging me off when i havent done a fucking thing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
cherrymonster · 03/10/2010 19:24

and also it means that every single mn'er who signs up gets one gift and sends one gift. its a swap thread. stop being miserable its christmas ffs. there are no data protection issues around this at all, because its done anon and through pm

GypsyMoth · 03/10/2010 22:17

a bump for you cm

Gigantaur · 03/10/2010 22:19

hardly a secret santa if you have to pm the poster you are sending to.
they will know exactly who they are receiving from.

cherrymonster · 03/10/2010 22:53

but thats the thing, they will know the nickname, but thats it. not the real name. hmmmmm see what you mean though, might have to find another way, maybe via email without using nicknames.
