Candy Canes

I've noticed the grocery stores have started putting out their Christmas treats (crisps, chocolates, calendars, etc) -- but has anyone seen any candy canes yet?

I want to make Reindeer for all of the children in my life (we're talking about 100 with family and all of the volunteering I do) but with a baby at home I'm thinking if I can start now I might get them all done. I need them done by mid-November, before we go back to the States, because when we get back (in December) some of the groups I'm involved in will have broken up already.

Thanks!!

I haven't seen them in the shops yet, sure you could get some on line though. What are you making if you dont mind me asking? Smile

Thanks BabyDubs. I'm hoping to make reindeer. Use a candy cane and at the top/curvy bit twist half of a brown chenille stick in the shape of antlers and then glue on two wiggle eyes and a red pom-pom nose. Easy, cheap, effective, fun. I used to make them as a child and thought it would be fun to do this year. When DS gets a bit bigger I'll get him to make them for me/everyone.

I can try and find a link with a picture if you're interested?

Have you tried poundstore type places? They often have them, and have them in early.

I have found some on - www.aquarterof.co.uk

I'd love to see your reindeer candy canes Smile

Supermarkets usually have them but they tend to put them out after Halloween.

I would be very interested yes please Smile

On Ebay they were 12 for a fiver - way too much imo!

What like this
www.crafts-for-all-seasons.com/candy-cane-reindeer.html

They sell big boxes of candy canes in poundland every year they are quite nice.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/09/2010 13:54

That sounds really nice OP.

But you are going to make 100 pom poms between now and Christmas with a baby?! Shock

You must be superhuman. Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/09/2010 13:55

I made pomanders one skint christmas. They were lovely and smelled divine.

I had sore fingers for days though, cloves are so sharp.

girlywhirly · 15/09/2010 14:19

I think I saw some in Wilkinsons last year.

Scout19075 · 15/09/2010 21:53

Thanks everyone!

Yes, those are the reindeer I want to make.

And no, I'm not making the pompoms -- I'll cheat and buy them (have a bunch already, just need to top up).
