My nearly 3 yo wants a robot for his birthday soon so could be an idea for christmas.

Why not buy something that kids have to work towards like a Christmas tree growing kit?

Start now and get your little ones planting during the summer so that by Christmas time they've got something to decorate (albeit quite small in the first year) - we did it last year and the sense of satisfaction and achievement with our 3-yr old and 5-yr old was great!

Thanks everyone, have loads of ideas now. Both DS's birthdays are in November so I now have so many ideas that I'll not have to post asking for ideas for those.

This year we are getting ds a playmobil firetruck with flashing lights, and a proper bike for after his balance bike. (Nov bday and xmas)

Have you seen the playmobil advent calenders? a bit fiddly, but they have lots of little boxes to open and the things in them make a christmassy theme. Very good.

There is a toy story buckaroo, my nearly four year old will be getting that.

Absolutely re balance bike, you can get them for £35 on Tesco.com!

Have bought a playmobil fire engine and dump truck - look like they will be a big hit! Going to keep an eye out for more playmobil stuff on sale.
