Church getting away with having no safeguarding! What to do?

Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can advise

There is this church my family member went to that I’m pretty sure has no safeguarding policy or lead. Tbh I don’t think they have DBS either.

They are a registered charity and claim to have a safeguarding policy

There was an incident involving a child (unfortunately not something police could do anything about) years ago and my relative says the parents said they had no one to report to.

I went on their website and there was nothing about safeguarding on their website. I emailed them asking who their safeguarding person is and how I can contact them and received no reply.

i raised concern to charity commission but it’s now been over year, they still have no safeguarding info on their website and no response to me. So I’m not sure if charity commission cares?

can they just get away with having no safeguarding? I worry about kids there. Anyone know?

They are non denomination and independent.

This is the wrong secrion to post this in. You want the legal section maybe?

Is this the same church with the orphanage and perceived financial mismanagement etc? If so, the legal section is definitely your go-to, but I would question why your vendetta against it? From what you've said, it's not you that attends. Are you worried about a friend or relative, or are you out to get them for another reason?

Is the fact that I learn

  1. orphanage closed years ago and they have been collecting large sums of money. Hang up on me then (yesterday they called me names when I questioned this and basically told me to get lost and not stick my nose in their business)
  2. There is no child safeguarding and there was awful incident involving child (and now I learn multiple kids)
  3. weird 65k loan

not enough to reason to have a problem with them? Is this something that should be ignored?

it it ok to be attending for decades, give tens of thousands of money and not find all this awful and disturbing? Is it really weird/vendetta to want to investigate further and hold them accountable?

and yes I am very worried about multiple loved ones/family members who still attend.

I also attended this church for decades.

The safeguarding thing for example greatly concerns me because one family member with child attends and now I hear multiple kids have been harmed there.

the parents brush it off as gossip and that “we don’t need safeguarding, it’s perfectly safe, the pastor will keep us safe”

I can’t stop them going, at least want to make sure that church has safeguarding put in place to keep my kid relatives safe.

I think this is the way forward. You keep posting about them but it's more of a legal / charity issue than a Christian issue. Several people have given you the same advice. Walk away or post on a legal board. Or preferably both.

Starting three separare threads under three different usernames, detailing three separate issues, just feels odd to me.
None of it is within my experience, so I'll butt out now.

if this church is part of a mainstream denomination you report to their safeguarding officers. If it is independent then it is harder, but the charity commission might be able to give you some advice.
