Have other Christian Mumsnetters found the enneagram useful spiritually?

A group of christian women i meet with are exploring the enneagram.
I'm not anti it, but i can't see the point.
Has anyone found it useful in their spiritual life?

I have done it but not really found it helpful. It's very prescriptive and people get tied in to what they come out as. It's interesting to think about strengths and weaknesses but I don't really believe everyone sits neatly in one of 9 categories. And so what anyway, is my feeling.

Yes. 'So what' is my feeling.
As a christian, my belief is the important thing is Christ's love redeeming me. Whatever i am.
Of course, we should all seek to be our best selves.

I also think the Bible talks about us growing in the fruit of the spirit. It would be better to focus on those than too much on exactly what we might be. It locks people in a box in my limited experience.

In work we did the Myers Briggs profiling and it didn't tell me any more than I already knew about my personality 'type', although it was an interesting exercise.

Never heard of Enneagram, so had to Google it. I can't see that it is particularly useful in the walk with Christ Jesus. In truth, it would appear that the men involved in developing it did so without any Christian foundation so I would caution against it if people are unwittingly using it seeking Christian growth. Talk of the 'fourth way' ... no, there is only one way!

For Christians, when we talk of 'spirituality' we have to be certain that we mean the One True Spirit or we are in danger of entertaining other spirits.

I've looked into it in the past, and found it to be quite accurate in describing my personality type. I don't use it in any way in my every day life, but I can see that it could be useful in understanding how I 'tick' and therefore what ways of thinking or learning about God might be helpful, or to be aware of how I might react to different things in church. I don't think it's any different from knowing that as an introvert I'd hate a group bible study where everyone was expected to contribute, and might actually find it more helpful to study the bible on my own or with one or two others.

Avoid, avoid. My pastor actually wrote a book on this, it was the subject of his PhD thesis! He was interviewed about it. He's also made a number of videos about it, too. I'd avoid it if I were you!

Thank you @GentleSheep. It did not sit well with me when I Googled it, so your warning is appreciated. 💐

@Catinabeanbag hello fellow introvert 🤭 The Myers Briggs test confirmed what I already knew about my personality type.

I thank the Lord that He blessed me with the Spirit of Discernment and I just knew in my heart that what was reading on Google was not edifying and to not pursue it. If it feels 'off', it's usually off! I always trust the immediate niggle in my 'God-Knowery'. 🙏

@GentleSheep I have now watched the video. God bless Dr Chris Berg for his exposé and you too for bringing the warning to this board.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to the video, it's quite long, but I found it very easy to listen to and there's a lot more to the enneagram than people realise.

I listened.
Thanks for sharing (I did find it a bit waffly thought)
