At the risk of sounding like Judas when the perfume was poured over Jesus feet, I can't get my head around spending 40 million on a statue when there is so much need around us.

To be fair I'm not a thief and not hoping to snaffle the month for myself so not too much like Judas!

Thegreatestoftheseislove · 09/11/2025 16:11

I love the idea and for some reason it brought to mind the song 'these are the days of Elijah'. Declaring the way of the Lord. It would be an unmissible testimony to our living Jesus. It won't be hidden away or unnoticed by folk who would never set foot in church. Each of the one million bricks will hold an answered prayer

@ChristmasStars I get you - 40 million could do a lot, but in this instance I see it as "give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime"

ChristmasStars · 09/11/2025 16:36

I hope you're right @Thegreatestoftheseislove - I'm not sure how this statue will teach people to fish though. I hope it gets good press.

I think it is a good thing but the article suggests that it may be being hijacked by far right as an anti immigration thing already which is a real shame.

I love it too, think it’s literally an inspired project and will say more on that later in the thread.

Speaking of Robin Mark, back in the day I used to be in the church where he led worship, CFC Strandtown, Belfast and was there when he wrote the song and we sang it together for the first time.

The latest news is that he’s not well, I don’t know if you knew. He’s got a rare form of Alzheimer’s. More below.

For those interested, here’s Robin’s account of how Days of Elijah was written & its themes.

The Story Behind Days of Elijah - Robin Mark

I have had quite a few people asking me for an explanation of the roots and meaning of the words and themes contained in "Days of Elijah" since I wrote the song way back in 1994. The song is generally and principally a song of 'hope'. The themes it exp...

@ChristmasStars , my thinking is that this time, in this place, is gone in the blink of an eye - charity is temporary; I'm considering eternity and that becoming a disciple of Christ Jesus is forever. If this inspired structure brings people to the Lord, then that is 'worth' the cost.

Wow! I love that story. To sing it for the first time must have been amazing! However, I am sad to read of Robin Mark's current trials. May the Lord sustain Jacqueline and those who care for Robin at this time, until he goes to Glory. 🙏

Hmmmm - tricky one! Personally I'm not a fan of huge abstract sculptures. Plus the enormous expense. An 'eternal prayer wall' surely doesn't need to be that extravagant? However it would certainly be a talking point so there's that! If it truly is God-inspired then He knows what He is doing!

Justmerach · 10/11/2025 07:26

I am not such a fan of abstract art, but the person claims that God has given it to them the idea so I must accept that, not read anything on them, but I will accept that. What do I think, it is not offensive to look at, it looks clean compared to some things going round these days. It looks clean and Holy enough and I think some other faiths might adopt it for them to like Judaism and Islam. I think I don’t get quite the concept of it and a true prayer wall would be higher than this, but credit to the artist. I would expect to find it more in a museum but good luck.
Hopefully it encourages other people.
I quite like angels so quite like the angel of the north.

Justmerach · 10/11/2025 11:08

I was thinking in the New Testament and I know some of you may have pets, but it is said do not give what is Holy unto the dogs so to say or your pearls to the swine to be trodden over.
I said this looks clean and holy enough-however, it is a park, someone who is drunk could sit on it and eat on it. A dog could run free and mess it up and then there is rain and snow effect to. The angel of the north seems to be in a difficult place to reach and mess up. It could be too used may be as a slide by children.
This though is a park perhaps it made a Perspex glass or something to keep it up from being misused by the public, or put it in a museum where it could be well looked after and stand the test of time.
If people misuse it and it is pictured with litter as a report would people be so eager to visit.

GentleSheep · 10/11/2025 13:03

So I think this will be a really huge construction @Justmerach if you look at the 3D video here of it, no-one would be able to sit on it, it's just too huge.

https://www.eternalwall.org.uk/

It is pretty impressive though, I have to say.

Justmerach · 10/11/2025 13:54

Thank you GentleSheep after I posted I went to search more pictures and did come across that website you linked and I saw the 3D pictures and had the same thought that you do, that it is doubtful that anyone would able to sit on it much.

Justmerach · 10/11/2025 14:59

They have said the land has been blessed and perhaps some people will take to praying there to. I can see it more as that to me like a wailing wall that Israelites had they would go and pray in front of it. Or if you look at Jericho wall it is circular and it collapsed and God's wall now will never collapse. If you can donate after may be some of the money can be used to support a good needs cause.

Justmerach · 10/11/2025 17:23

After looking at this on the website, it seems this will be in protected grounds and also used for other Christian worship and not a normal free park as some might think. If thi iss correct I don't really see any issues with how some public may treat it as it is quite private?
