O come, let us adore Him- an invitation to worship

the “adoration of the Magi” - 6th January aka epiphany- is traditionally the time when we remember the visit of the Magi to Bethlehem to worship our Lord Jesus Christ.

So I thought at this season we could have a thread where Christian Mumsnetters could share our thoughts of worship together- perhaps our favourite scriptures, or songs relating to the worship of our Lord.

O come, let us adore Him!

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?”

And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it.

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne.

Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying:

You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.”

Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice:

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!”

And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:

Blessing and honour and glory and power be to Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever!”

Then the four living creatures said, “Amen!”

And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him who lives forever and ever.

Revelation chapter 5.

I think of one of my favourite pieces of music, Peter Cornelius' "Three Kings".

"How brightly shines thy natal star.."

Thank you OP. I'd somehow forgotten that epiphany means to reveal or to make manifest so I'm thinking about that.

Another of my favourites is "O Magnum Mysterium" by Lauridsen. Also very atmospheric. Try the "Nordic Choir" version. Sorry, I seem unable to link.

You’re so welcome, @Wavescrashingonthebeach and I hope & pray you will feel better soon 🙏🏻💕

I always find when I turn away from the negative things in life and just let my gaze rest on our dear Lord Jesus my mind settles and my soul begins to sing.

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.”

I've managed to unwittingly broadcast the Lauridsen to the entire family - I'd no idea I could cast YouTube from my phone to the TV. The Lord works in mysterious ways 😄

Aw yes thank you :) i feel like I've been doing the "bare minimum" faithwise lately not been listening to sermons or getting into The Word just only reading the verse of the day on my phone.
But I love how God has found me through this thread while I've been mindlessly scrolling MN! God always meets us where we are!
I managed to finally get some sleep after reading this thread last night xx

Love this. Also love a setting of we three kings, by Allan Bullard. Bethlehem Down is also beautiful. By Peter Warlock..

When He is King we will give him the Kings' gifts,
Myrrh for its sweetness, and gold for a crown,
Beautiful robes," said the young girl to Joseph,
Fair with her first-born on Bethlehem Down.
Bethlehem Down is full of the starlight,
Winds for the spices, and stars for the gold,
Mary for sleep, and for lullaby music
Songs of a shepherd by Bethlehem fold.
When he is King they will clothe him in grave-sheets,
Myrrh for embalming and wood for a crown,
He that lies now in the white arms of Mary
Sleeping so lightly on Bethlehem Down.
Here he has peace and a short while for dreaming,
Close-huddled oxen to keep him from cold,
Mary for love, and for lullaby music
Songs of a shepherd by Bethlehem fold
