My dd is 4 mth and a half. Her poo this afternoon looked like a normal bf poo but then i noticed like a string of blood. Dd doesnt seem to have a fever. But she keeps on falling asleep when bf her. What could it be?
Thanks

It could just be a small scratch just inside her bottom, or have you considered cows milk allergy? Blood in poo is a symptom of that (as it causes damage to the GI tract), but you would normally expect other symptoms too (in a bf baby these might include eczema or really explosive stinky nappies). The sleepiness could be related if this were the case I think (or otherwise extreme irritability during feeds and popping on/off boob as though in pain).

Thanks UnseenAcademicalMum Cows milk could be a possibility. I am lactose intolerant but having been eating ice cream the last 2 weeks (I live in Rome and am finding it extremely difficulty to stay away from ice cream in this heat!). But wouldn't the blood have shown up earlier?

Not necessarily, my ds2 started getting blood in his poo at around 4 months-ish. If you don't usually have that much dairy in your diet, it could be a response to suddenly having more.

Some other symptoms are given here, if that is any help.

no, wouldn't necessarily show up earlier, could be that it's built up to an intolerable level in her

BUT, i would have thought you'd have seen other symptoms.... unsettled behaviour, crying more than usual, seeming uncomfy?

i would get her checked out tbh
