2 yo DD was out of her cast for 10 days when she fell and re-fractured the same bone (tibia) at a different place. Now her grandmother is all worried that she has a 'condition'. Anyone have experience with multiple fractures? Do we need a bone scan? Reassure me please!!!

Been there! I feel your pain..

DS broke his arm one month after the cast came off last summer (Threads on here somewhere!).

When a limb has been immobilised then the supporting muscles are weakened, so will be more prone to unfortunate injuries.

I would push for Physio though, as when DS broke his leg (another year) he had a full length cast on for 9 weeks, and then almost tore his achilles tendon when he started walking again - it needed a lot of stretching and rebuilding.

Thank you both. Milliways, I think physio is a fab idea. Even 10 days after the cast came off dd was not walking. Now with the cast back on there is no stopping her! Clearly, the leg was very weak. Of course now I will be scared about everything

Not entirely the same, but it might make you laugh.

DD broke her arm aged 3, falling off/over a scooter. Aged 5, whilst messing around with mummy, she pulled me over and I sat on her wrist, fracturing it.

I asked the Dr, would it be because she'd broken it before? He said "no, its because you sat on her"

Ouch! Don't worry, I think parental involvement isn't that rare. Our swimming instructor managed to trap his daughter's leg while they were going down a slide together, and it broke rather badly and needed surgery.

In any case, we will see a specialist about possible problems. Thanks for all your support.
