Hand, foot and mouth? Do I need to see GP?

Just noticed tonight that my 22 month old DD has a few small blisters on both hands and both feet. Not many, no more than 10 in total and she doesn't seem bothered by them. She didn't sleep well last night but otherwise seems fine, no temperature or anything.

I've just googled hand, foot and mouth and it does look like it could be that- in which case there is no real treatment. I'm thinking just to leave it and see what happens- would I be a really bad mother for not taking her to the GP straight away? Is there anything else it could be that would need checking out? No spots elsewhere as far as I can see.

The other thing is that she's at nursery and it's supposed to be quite contagious- but I've also read that she could be contagious for weeks, I don't have to keep her off nursery do I? I'm assuming it's just one of those things that does the rounds sometimes but haven't come across it before, so would welcome advice from anyone who's seen it.

No need for GP to confirm, but would take them if especially poorly and you are worried. There is no specific treatment as it's viral.

NHS website here says they can go back to school/nursery when they feel well enough, so I would ask them what their exclusion policy is.

Ok thanks for the reply, thats what I thought. Am just hoping now that nursery will take her, as she seems perfectly fine.

My SIL is a GP and one day, one of her patients came in saying
"i think I need to burn my child"
It was because he'd seen the foot and mouth thing on the TV and his child had been diagnosed with Hand foot and mouth and wanted to know if that's what he had to do.
