Hi, things were going ok, but we are back to big pain flare ups again. We had an appt with the orthopedics doc 2 weeks ago who diagnosed this tight iliotibial band. Prognisis it will come and go.

dd did 3 days at school last week, followed by a good weekend. Then bam, monday morning it's back big time. This morning woke again in agony.

Just when you think it's ok it comes back. I am living with a child with a disability, and geting our heads around this is hard. I go from being strong to feeling angry and helpless. Can't plan anything now and live from day to day, which is hard to get your head around iyswim.

I have direct support/contact with her physio, but she can only reccomend the stretches, which dd can only do if the pain is minimal. If it's inflamed then we just have to medicate and wait it out.

It's fucking hard. I think if this is the pattern now, then the doc may say we need to consider the cortisone injections. I have told dd this is a possibility in the future. Anyone have any idea how they make this slightly more comfortable for a kid?

Sorry to hear about your ds' fall, Sparkle. Could it be that he just went into shock/switched off? Dd used to behave very oddly after her falls, a couple of times we called an ambulance because of suspected concussion. But she was always fine in the end, and seemed to snap out very suddenly as you describe.

Hope you both have a lovely time in Spain, piratecat.

hi Cory (waves), hi Sparkle (more waving)

Sparkle sounds like you and ds are having a prolific couple of weeks .

As Cory said, maybe he did go into some sort of shock, poor little guy. Yes I would deffo ring the ortho secretary and specify that there have been some recent perplexing and inconsistencies.

I bumped into the head last night, at the local shop and he gave us his blessing for the hol, which just made me feel much more at ease.
xx

Thanks Cory and Pirate, I think you are both right, it must have been shock, he was all sweaty as well.

I will chase the appointment, as nothing came in the post today.

Pirate, you go and enjoy a fab few days, make the most of the different place, the company, the weather, and your mum taking care of you both.

lol, my mother's extent of taking care is giving me a glass of wine. She's totally undomesticated. Yet she is a good laugh.

thanks

Hope you had a great time, how is she doing? How are you feeling?

piratecat · 15/07/2010 18:10

hiya, well it was a lovely break from the norm. dd bobbed around in mum's little pool alot and that seemed ok. Yet when we treid to walk anywhere, even up the road to a cafe she had alot of pain.

Got home late, delayed flight etc... but i was thinking to send her to school thismorning. She awoke to severe pain and stiffness, and i could only put it down to all the walking about and hanging around we did at the airport. (gate changes, tiredness). I was really pissed off that she was so bad this morning and even had a go at her saying how could this be? I felt like shite for behaving like that tbh. I know how unpredictable it is i just thought it would be a good morning.

It's cold damp and wet here, so maybe the hot humid weather was beneficial? boy was it hot. 36 in the shade!!!

felt great to be away, sorry, i felt like we had been gone a month rather than a week !!

how are you?

Sorry not to have got back to you sooner. I am so glad you had a good time, I bet being in the pool probably felt great for her. I guess the strain of the trip back was probably always going to cause a flare up, I hope dd is feeling better now. When do they break up from school?

We have got another week to go here. Sent ds off to school this morning dosed up with painkillers and with one arm in a sling as he woke up with severe shoulder pain. So all normal this end, although it has been about 10 days now since he last had the foot numbness and any incontinence so that it good, Appointment has come through for 4th August to see spinal surgeon, so we will see what he thinks then. When is your dd seeing the consultant?

SparkleRainbow · 20/07/2010 12:59

Pirate - I am scaring myself with how depressed I am, I am going to post on the mental health thread, sorry having a really bad day. Hope your dd is pain free today, so far ds at school as normal so fingers crossed.
