Ulcers in mouth/throat along with fever. What could it be?

Ds1 is 4.7yo and woke up feverish last night. Today he has had a really sore throat which I then saw was covered in ulcers, and he has several ulcers on the inside of his mouth. None on his tongue though.

It's even sore when he swallows water, so understandably, he's off his food. We are going to the doc tomorrow.

I am thinking hand/foot/mouth with the foot and mouth stuff to come? Or Scarlet or Glandular fever??

Any other ideas?

Hand foot and mouth info

The ulcers usually come first after a sore throat and general feeling of illness/temp.

Doc said it is the coxsakie virus (which is the one that causes hand/foot/mouth) but there is no sign of anything on his hands and feet.

he is perkier today, but still not right. he is loving having lollies and ice cream though!

My ds has had coxsackie twice we used to live in US, hadn't heard of it before we went there. First time he was very poorly with very high temp, spots filling his mouth, very few on hands and feet, dd1 caught it from him and was not poorly at all had about three on each foot and that was it. Second time around he had very few in his mouth and loads on his hands and feet. US doctors said there were loads of different coxsackie viruses, all with basically same symptoms, so maybe it depends on which of the viruses your ds has picked up. I'm glad he is feeling a bit better today.

sounds like herpangina, it's caused by the coxsackie virus, paracetamol, fluids and ice lollies will help the pain of the ulcers. very contagious, so try and keep away from other DCs
