Have just been prescribed this by a consultant paed for DD's constipation (she's 16 months old). He wasn't super-informative and I'm wondering how best to administer it as the consensus is that it tastes vile. For now I've mixed up a sachet with the recommended amount of water and plan to add that to her bedtime bottle. Is this OK? I assume I can put it in any liquid (juice etc). Could I mix it directly with milk and then put it on her weetabix? Can I put it in yogurt?

She's much too small to be persuaded to take it because she needs it....

Anyone had success with it? (I've had positive reports on my diet thread here if anyone is interested

TIA

Worked a treat for our twins, after many months of screaming, crying, bleeding etc etc.

We have been on 1 a day for the last 4 months, and we give it to them in squash. Orange seems to work the best, make up the squash and then add the powder. It does not mix well in ribena...

We were on lactulose for months prior to this and it did sweet FA. I am yet to meet anyone who this has worked for.

The nappies are horrendous...I don't even want to think about potty training...but they do not cry when they are pooing so we are happy.

Glad things are working for you!

My four and half year old has been on one / two Movicol sachets daily since she was 2 and has recently been diagnosed with impaction! So have upped the dosage to try and clear blockage, with a lot of accidents, leakage and large soft poos. Hoping to progress to maintenance dosage to keep her regular with little no accidents. How much dosage are people giving their kids here, 1, 2, .. 4 to keep them regular?

I put it in dd's first drink in the morning (doesn't always go in one go, but normally quite quickly). She accepts it in any squash or juice - in fact I didn't used to tell her, and she didn't notice. Now she knows, and worries in case I've forgotten her 'poo powder'. I think it helps her psychologically to know she's having it, as it lessens her fear of going to know she's had something special to stop it hurting.

And yes, success. Prescribed as dd holds on and creates constipation and soiling, which makes her hold on etc etc. Takes a while, as you have to get rid of the consitpation, then wait for the sensation to return properly in their bottom before they can really get back in control of BMs. Have tried weaning off it twice, but we just go back to square one, so I am reconciled to using it forever if I have to.
