Inflamed nipple on 8 month baby boy - anyone else had this?

DS has one sore-looking nipple. It only appeared today, it's a bit red and larger than the other side. When I touch it I can feel a little lump about the size of a pea behind it. Doesn't seem to be bothering DS at all, even when I touch it. He has no temperature.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I need to decide if it's a 'straight to the doctor' or a 'wait and see'. DH has both DTs all day tomorrow so a doctor's trip with both of them is a bit of a marathon - I'm wondering if whether it will e ok to wait till Wednesday.

So, any advice welcome. Thanks.

Hi there- not sure if this is too late but DD2 had this and it is just a hormone thing that is totally harmless and goes away again. DD had hers about a week. GP said to put ibuprofen gel on it if it was inflamed.

Thanks Jasper! I took him to the GP this morning and as you said, the Doc said DS had mastitis caused by my hormones!

No treatment unless it gets really inflamed so I can relax (till the next worry comes along)
