Tonsilitis for the 3rd time since the beginning of March - Help!!

Has anyone else experience this? My daughter is 17 months old and she has had 3 lots of tonsilitis since the beginning of March. She keeps being given that awful orange penicillin. But it clearly isn't working as the tonsilitis keeps coming back. We have got an appointment to see a paediatrician next Tuesday, but I would appreciate to hear if anyone else has gone through this and has any miracle ideas??

Thank you!

I suffered bad boughts of tonsillitis from when I was little until they took them out when I was 10.
The last few months I had it the same as your dd. I would have antibiotics, get better go back to school and two days later would have it again, which was why the decision was made to take them out. This was just when the attitude to removing tonsils were changing and they were becoming much more reluctant to take tonsils out.

Hi bruffin - I had exactly the same thing - I was basically on antibiotics from about 2 years old to 10 when they took my tonsils out. I just do not want the same thing to happen to my daughter - she's only 17 months - it's a long time until 10!!! There just must be another solution??

My friends son had his taken out at under 5 so hopefully they will do something for your daughter. Tonsillitis is horrible isn't it, your poor dd.

my 3 year old daughter had tonsilitis every two weeks from july to october last year. She wouldn't take the horrible orange medicine so she mainly had co-amoxiclav(which i'm told is supposed to taste like bananas-it doesn't, but it's definately better than the orange stuff). We got referred to the ENT clinic at the hospital and they said that basically it was classed as one bout of tonsilitis that had never cleared up. We've got to go back again in a couple of months but luckily she hasn't had it since last October so we'll just have to wait and see,I don't want to put her through an operation unless it's necessary.

DD had hers out last year at 3.5. I had them out myself at about 9. I do think it can run in the family. While they are more cautious about removing them now, it is still a fairly common procedure. DD had tonsilitis roughly monthly - it was ridiculous. She is doing much better since op in November.

Hi,

I had to post on this one as my son had this this since mothers day and was also given two courses of the orange antibiotic which did not touch him, he was then given a ten day course of a different one, his tonsils are still swollen and he has a croaky voice but our doctors refuse to refer him, probably due to money, he has an ongoing problem with tonsllitas, he is four now, I am at my wits end with it but the doctors just don't want to know. Hope your little one is ok now mine full of beans just croaky but it took a months worth of antibiotics to clear the infection.... so your not alone.
