Fever, tired, no appetite but no other symptoms? What could this be in 1yo?

DD2 has had a slight fever all day, got worse in the evening (up to 38.3 despite Calpol). She was grumpy all day and slept a lot, refused most food and even her evening milk. No other symptoms as far as I can tell though... what could this be? Does she need to see a doctor? DD1 always has a very obvious cough or snotty nose to go with it so not used to random fevers!

Try a damp cloth? I use Kool n Soothe gel pads to bring down temperatures.

Does she react to light? Is her neck aching? Go to the NHS direct website.

If you are worried call a doctor.

But its probably just a virus, do try and get the temperature down. If you manage it she should perk up a bit.

If not or you are still worried do phone the doctor on call.

She should be taken to the out of hours, tonight if you can. It could be anything, an ear infection/UTI/tonsilitis so she needs checking over by a doctor. I wouldn't leave it incase she gets worse.

I ended up not taking her to the docs - she slept fairly calmly despite a temp of 39C and I woke her every 4 hours for alternating Calpol and Calprofen. This morning she's been much happier and the temperature seems to have come right down at last but I am still taking her to the GP now. Have this funny suspicion that he'll say it's just a virus - that always seems to be their standard response. Thanks for the handholding you two.
