Cough/cold virus turned into infection in 1yr old?

I would be grateful for any opinions on this? There as been a nasty cough virus going round our family for a few weeks. DD2 1yr old got it a week and a half ago and had a temp etc and was quite ill last weekend - temp went within 24hrs but cough and horrific cattarh (causing her to choke) remained. But she has been perky enough so I assumed it was on its way out. This morning she has woken up with a temperature again, chestiness etc still there.

Of course this would happen on a saturday. I have a horrific week at work next week and can't be off. My question is - given how long this has been going on and that the temperature has returned, would you think its now become a throat or chest infection as opposed to viral? Obviously feels rather OTT to go to A&E but at the same time I can't afford this to drag on any longer - and she is far from her normal happy self.

What would you do?

Call NHS rather than go to A+E.

Does anyone actually ever get anything useful from NHS Direct?

Am not a big fan of NHS Direct but they should be able to direct you to a walk in centre or out of hours GP that can help. DS had a couple of these instances between the ages of 1 and 2 and he did need antibiotics for an infection so it would be good to get her chest listened to I think.

Thanks have called the out of hours/emergency no. Doctor going to call me back. Feel a bit bad as isn't THAT bad, but on the other hand, if it has turned into an infection i dont really want to leave it til monday. Why oh why does this always happen at the weekend....

update - nightmare wait in clinic at hospital - she sat there grinning at everyone and I am sure they thought I am some neurotic mother but turns out she does have chest infection so thanks for advice. Just hope the antibiotics kick in so she is on the mend by monday!!
