DD age 3 has always been a "wheezy baby". We have had ventolin and budesonide since she was about 16 months for mainly an incessant unstoppable night cough generally associated with virues and ? hayfever. Recently shes been much much better but has had a run of viruses and "the cough" is back with a vengeance.

Anyway last night she woke at 4 am with a temp and cough cough coughing. She couldnt speak between coughs and was struggling to take a full breath. Got it under control with two sets of four puffs of ventolin and made docs apt this am. Of course she barely coughs at the docs and her "chest is clear come back if you are still worried". Now we are home and we have had a 15 minute coughing fit shes red in the face and the ventolin aint touching it.

I've just given her some piriton as one gp suggested it last summer and it seemed to help.

If it really is asthma I'm probably being too hands off or perhaps I'm overreacting and the child "just has a cough"

I hate this. Anyone got any words of wisdom?? She is quite calm watching beebies but wants me to make the cough go away
