Worried about 13 month old DD- tummy bug getting worse not better

It started on Saturday with diarrhoea and gripey pains. Thought she was getting better but this morning she produced yet another brilliant yellow explosive nappy. She is off her food but drinking most of her milk and today is quite lethargic. She is fast asleep on me at the moment. We have an appointment with the GP this afternoon and have a sample to take with us.

Not sure why I'm posting, just want to share my worries about her with you plus I am stuck with sleeping baby on me!

she may have developed a temporary lactose intolerance due to the tummy bug which is why she isnt getting any better (due to the lactose in the milk).

Have seen GP who has put it down to toddler diarrhoea and just to go with it for a few more days. She's a bit perkier this afternoon but still producing foul nappies. Milk is the only thing she will take - if she has a temporary lactose intolerance what should I do?

is it cows milk she is having? If so you can get Lactofree cows milk in the supermarket which has the lactose broken down which may help.

no she's still on formula.

sounds like she is getting a temp. lactose intolerance after a bug. You need to get a sample confirmed with your surgery (she is v young for prolonged diorreah so I am sure they will do asap) and then they will switch you to a soy formula for a week or so and give you a diet sheet.

This happened to DD and she was as thin as a rake before we found out what was going on.

Seona1973 · 10/03/2010 19:54

you can get lactose free formula too which is not soya based e.g. SMA LF, etc

I took a sample with me but the Dr felt it wouldn't provide results of any significance - so I brought it home again. Maybe I should try the soy or LF formula for a week or so.

you need to elimanate all dairy from diet. You should really get advice on it tbh - call them and explain what you think has happened. They should test ideally but it takes 3 days and that is v long in a baby with diorreah
