If your child had eczema, then contrated chicken pox, did you give them antivirals?

Just wondering what effect they had. My two both have eczema, ds badly, and have been exposed to chicken pox. The doctor said this morning that they would both have to have antivirals.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience they felt like sharing?

My DS had eczema and a cold, then got chicken pox from his sister at just 8 months old.

It was terrible, the spots dug into the eczema and became infected. He looked like a swamp monster (Each spot was surrounded by a ring of inlamed, infected skin). Worst thing was, as he had spots literally EVERYWHERE I couldn't cuddle him - he just screamed. There wasn't one place on his body I could put my little fingertip and not touch a spot, He had to take a valium derivative to knock him out, plus antibiotics to clear the infection.

Sorry - I really don't want to scare you, but if I knew what we were i for & were offerred antivirals I would have taken them.

Thanks for responding Milliways. God it sounds grim. Your poor DS.

I will go for the antivirals, especially as he has a chest infection at the moment. I am just glad we happened to mention it to the doctor, we could easily not have known.
