I don't know. I've had Daktarin and Canesten for dcs yeast infections before which are avail otc but no idea on Nystatin being otc. Could you ring your drs and ask for a call back. Here I can call and leave a message with reception for a dr or the triage nurse to call me back the same day. I got antibiotics for dd's repeat tonsillitis (?sp) that way this week.
Hope your ds feel better soon.

Thanks! Not sure what those 2 creams are. My friend is a paed and told me to get the Nystatin cream.
Maybe I'll call them in the morning. It's a fairly small practise...one Dr and one Nurse

iirc they are anti fungals and nystatin is anti fungal and anti bacterial. thinking about it i've had health visitor prescribe both nystatin (for oral thrush on baby) and daktarin (for my nipples as was still bf-ing at time) so it might be worth trying them if you're dr's are not much help. my sil is a pead too, it's so helpful/useful at times

She may mean Nystatin solution to treat her orally. There is a Nystatin cream and ointment but they are very rarely prescribed.
You cant get either creams or solution without a prescription.
What are his symptoms

Yes they are definitely useful

Actually I think it's a fungal infection or is that the same thing as a yeast infection?

Anyway it's cleared up heaps since last night so I haven't called the Dr and will keep on using the nappy rash cream which is what my friend said to carry on doing.

He has small red/whitehead spots on his bum. she did mention the oral Nystatin but definitely said to get the cream version
