my 5 yr old has had a nasty cold and chesty cough since Sat, took him to Dr's today who checked ears, throat, chest and temp all ok - just to keep giving calpol, nuerofen and lots of fluids.

Tonight seemed a little better but has coughed some blood up. Quit shocked me as I thought he was onthe mend and was going to send him back to school tom.

Rang NHS direct to get advice - 4 hour waiting list for a call back!!!!

He doesnt have a temp, seems well in himself and has gone straight off to sleep. Just very surprised about the blood.

Was going to send him back to sch tomorrow but now not sure - advice from anyone please

Yes- was it lots of bright red blood or small strands?

holsareacoming · 10/02/2010 20:04

umm hard to tell, it was bright red, but like with anything in the mouth it gets diluted so always looks worse

ds been to docs again today and has a chest infection that must of developed since yesterday when I took him to Docs.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ *
Interestingly the Doc said it is not unusual for adults to cough up blood when having a cough or cold but it is very unusual for children to.

I have been told that if it happens again today to go straight to A & E where they will do a chest X Ray
