Is this the start of puberty for DD, or an infection?

Sorry if this is TMI, but DD(10) has a yellowish discharge - no smell, itching pain etc, it's just started today and seems quite heavy as she's complaining of feelings as though she's leaking a bit. She's nowhere near to starting her periods - she's very slim, absolutely no curves whatsoever, no body hair, breast etc, so not sure what to make of it. Obviously I'll take her to the GP later in the week if it's still here, but anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Pixie. I was probably being naive in thinking that it wasn't an infection because there were no other symptoms [bad mother emoticon], but yes, GP is probably the way forward. Poor thing - she's been frantically and delightedly reading her "growing up book", and is convinced that she "the mucus" - she'll be very upset if it turns out to be an infection!

Yes, I gave her one today which she has been very proudly wearing - but I've told her that I think we still need to go to the GP. I think she's started to notice that she is physically so far behind the other girls in her class, so this was her one chance to claim puberty. Poor love..!

I started my period when I was 11, and was fully formed be then - but then completely stopped growing around the same age and now stand at a grand 5' 2". Looking back it was incredibly young, and certainly not something I'd wish on her. She's very young for her age, and still plays with her dolls and plays make-believe. I'd love for her to be able to enjoy what is left of her childhood.

DD1 had this just before she turned 10 - asked GP about it and she said normal, will happen 2 - 3 yrs before she starts her periods and girls are starting earlier now. She does have shape nad body hair though.

Yes, she's incredibly thin, and always has been. It's still there, but she says she's not leaking anymore. I'll see how it goes and get her to the GP in the next few days for advice. That's interesting, Monkey - so it would appear that discharge doesn't mean periods are imminent if you were 3.5 years later.

My DD is 10 (only just though) and has also been getting discharge which I think is part of her starting puberty. She does have some pubic hair and has the beginnings of breast development though.

I started my periods at 14, but do remember having a bit of discharge from about 11. I remember running to the toilets hopefully each teim I felt it. I wasn't very well developed when mine started, so it could be the beginnings of puberty if there are no other symptoms.
