I thought dd2 and I had already had it a few weeks before xmas we were both hit with a really bad bout of flu, that seemed to last forever. So I didn't think much of it when my Grandad was diagnosed as I thought we'd be immune.

Dd2 has a high temp, sickness and lethargic and a bad(ish) cough. But no wheezing, apparent pain and she is reponisve.

According to my GP, the main distinguishing factor of swine flu is that it comes on very quicky and if it's going to be bad it will also worsen very quickly.

She was fine yesterday. Got into our bed at about 3am this morning and has been puking ever since. I'd say that's quick.

She is very responsive, with no breathing difficulties, do you think it will be okay to leave her untill morning if we monitor her closely over night?

As far as i know as ive had a swine flu information leaflet through the post and asking me if i want to imunise my 4 yr old. Much the same as seasonal flu..fever, tiredness, cough, sore throat..can be more severe. In the elderly and children under 5 can be worse..in fact many people have had it and dont know theyve had it. If your at all worried..always best to check. Or phone nhs direct and get some advice.

Yes my grandad was told that it's not as bad as everyone thought it would be and over 90% of cases aren't even diagnosed.

Since she is is responding and alert I'll leave her until morning. The last thing she needs right now is to be dragged out of bed to wait over an hour for a taxi that may or may not turn up. And our A and E is horrendous on a Sat night, she probably won't be seen untill morning anyway.

My instinct is that she will be better off here, but will ring NHS direct if she gets even a smidge worse.

I posted something before which disappeared into the ether. Something along the lines of DS having had a thing that included vomiting and the other symptoms you describe which lasted about 36 hours. Anyhow, I think you're doing the right thing to wait and see. If she's still the same in the morning I'd call someone just to be safe.

Only those with underlying health problems are usually at risk. That sounds sensible to me and insticts are usually right. I need to look up swine flu jabs and decide whether or not to give it her or not..such a hard decision. See whether there are any known severe side effects then make a decision..its being offered to all children under 5.
