Prepubescent girls and tender, sore breasts

DD has one sore and tender nipple/breats. When I feel there is a lump beneath it. One side only. It looks swollen and darker than the other one. She is 8, nearly 9, years old.

Am I right in assuming this is normal and the start of puberty?

What you describe sounds like normal puberty/pre-puberty to me, very similar to DD and her friends' experiences and nothing to be worried about. However, would be worth seeing GP or school nurse or talking to NHS direct just to put your mind at rest and be absolutely sure

I thought so. DH wants me to take her to doc. I think I will wait and see what happens during the week, and keep a close eye on things in the meantime. Thanks

it really does sound "normal" - but why not have a chat with NHS direct, just to be sure- if nothing else, will help you explain to your DH why you're not rushing to the Drs
