DS has Itchy Bottom - anyone know much about this?

DS son woke tonight really crying complaining his bottom inside was itchy. This has happened a few times.

Ive checked each time and catn see any thread worms etc...

The only thing I can think of is that he still wears Hugglies PJ pants at night as still not dry (nearly 5)- so wondering if he's hot in them and the heat is making him sweaty/hot and itcy perhaps??? If so I can take them off as he is nowhere near dry . I have taken his pj bottoms off tonigt though.

Do you think I shoudl go to Dr's???

OK folks, what exactly were we looking for? Eggs or worms. There were possibly a couple of little round brownish things right in the anal area - a little bit like flea eggs - but could equally well have been remnants from not washing his bottom well enough. Came off on the wipe looking quite flat, not egg like at all. Nothing that looked like Alien. Opinions?

nope

threads of cotton /grains of rice - can be far inside but white!

gaelicsheep · 17/01/2010 23:35

So probably not threadworms then? I'll check again tomorrow to be sure. Thanks

We have 3 small white/rice grains outside of bottom. Im def putting it down to worms then.

Right Hubby going to find a pharmacy so ASDA have a late night pharmacy?

Bad luck Dietqueen. Hope the Ovex works.

Couldnt get into the Docs till Wedn with him so have just spent £8.90 on Ovex oral meds...they have a tablet form for £3 but he would take tablets.

Fingerscrossed this works you only need one 5ml spoon then another 2 weeks later.

Yuk, yuk yuk!!!!!

Got the Ovex today and gave at 8.30am. Tonight DS still complaining of itchy bottom but not as bad...why does it only come on at night time?

Will go armed with torch and cotton wool pad later to see if the little suckers are still about!

Gaelicsheep - how did you get on?

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 18/01/2010 22:22

normally no symptoms within 24 hours but RIGOROUS hygiene now needed
boil sheets etc and towels

the worms only come out at night!

gaelicsheep · 18/01/2010 22:28

Nothing last night. Will check again tonight to be sure. No complaints today so I think it was the fruit tbh.

Romanarama · 18/01/2010 22:41

You have to give the Ovex again in 15 days or he'll get the worms back, if it was worms.

dietqueen · 19/01/2010 17:16

yes will do...although I did fill the cup the wrong way round and it split everywhere so only enough left for ds's 2nd dose!
