Any advice about how to treat sticky eyes in an 8 month old

They're both completely gunked up, i've been wiping them with salt water, i also just tried spraying some breast milk in them (not the best or most sensible way probably but there you go). Anyone had any success treating them with breastmilk or is doctor best?

Alot of babies get this. Doctors recommend that you clean them regularly with cooled boiled water, wiping from the inner corner outwards,wiping only once then using a fresh bit of cotton wool. It is vecuase their tear ducts are immature and get blocked. However it should really have cleared up by the time they are 6 months old (at least thats what doc told me!). So I would see your gp about it, especially if the eyes are red too. Hope this helps, my 2 month old has it as well, it's very frustrating!

Thats probably a good idea, to put your mind at rest if nothing else. It's horrible when they are sick and so little but I'm sure he'll be fine. Good luck xxx

also try massaging outer eye, by side of nose to get tear ducts working.

Try some cold tea on a cotton wool ball...wipe from outer to inner corner of the eye.

The tannin in the tea is supposed to be a natural balancer/cleanser for the eyes. Used it on all three of mine and it seemed to work.

DD2 had this for ages when she was a baby. There was a homeopathic thing I used to use called Eyebright (think it's real name is Euphrasia.)Dissolve a tablet in some boiled water and use this to wipe the eyes with. Seemed to work well.

Was going to advise breast milk, I read once why it works but I have forgotten the big words!
