My DD has just come out of hospital after having the same. I was told if she gets very chesty to go into the bathroom with the shower on.

Sorry no advice, just wanted to offer my sympathy. What a grim time it must have been. Glad you are both home now. How old is your ds?

alibobins · 07/01/2010 21:21

Ds2 is 4 weeks tomorrow but wasn't actually due until 2nd Jan.
Ds1 has got brittle asthma and its made me worry ds2 is going to end up the same. He sounds awful tonight

Amazing.. hope your Dd gets better soon how old is she?

Hi Alibobins - my sympathy - we had the same (started 18 days, but at least he wasn't early), and over Christmas too. Did your DS get physio when in hospital? The cough can hang around for ages I'm afraid. Agree with Ferret that a warm steamy atmosphere might be helpful.

No advice, but lots of sympathy. My 8 week old ds was in hospital at 3-4 weeks old with the same thing. He is still very wheezy and his cough has returned (it did go away).

I spoke to the community nurse on the phone as we were snowed in and basically if he is feeding ok and his breathing is not laboured, there isn't much they can do for the cough.

I'm sure you have already tried things like propping up his mattress, that helps my ds.

Oh lots of sympathy, DD2 had this when she was 4 weeks, was so scary. She wouldn't wake up at one point which was frightening.
She was very chesty for a few weeks afterwards, I took her back to the docs a few times (like once a week)to get them to check her over in case she wasn't getting better, which they didn't seem to mind and put my mind at rest.
Steamy bathroom is good, I used to put DD1 in the bath and run the shower hot down the sink to steam the room.
Also raise the end of her mattress a bit to ease night breathing.
