Does anyone know if you can buy phenergan over the counter in a chemist?

Or if it is prescription only?

DD takes it for travel sickness and we are going away tomorrow and i have just checked the bottle and it is out of date by a few months.

Obviously too late to get any on prescription, so wondered if I could get it in the chemist in the station over the counter.

TIA

Unless something has changed recently then it's not under prescription. HOwever be prepared for a grilling as some people use it for getting their dc to sleep, so make sure you tell them it's for travel sickness.

That's good news, thanks! Hopefully the chemist in the station will have it, or it will be an awful 6 hours on the train!

be warned though that not all chemists stock it so you may need to go to a couple or ring round first.

You can buy Phenergan tablets too for older children / adults

Hmm, our train is at 7.30am and the pharmacy in the chemist opens at 7, so that is really the only one we will have a chance to go to.

She is 9, so should be fine with a tablet if they have those.

If not, hopefully i will be able to at least get some for the return journey!

DS had it to help him sleep (from the GP). Sadly it had the opposite effect and he would be completely hyper for an hour after taking it! Then he would yawn 3 times and then zonk out.

I couldn't get the tablets for adults. They told me (in Boots) it was prescription only.

I'll give it a try in the morning in Boots then, and if not will just buy something else for travel sickness (although nothing but phenergan seems to help) and hope for the best!

I really should have checked sooner....

Thanks all

It's in Night Nurse if anyone ever needs it in a hurry again. It's useful as a general sedative if under some sort of stress.
