Brown inhaler - finished?

How do you know when the inhaler has run out or is running out? More particularly, how will my 7yo dd know?

I have a friend who was actually allergic to her inhaler (which I think is very unusual). It made her cough after taking it but she was fine once it had been changed.

Otherwise, why not book an appointment with the asthma nurse and ask her about it?
